What is an ATS and how does it affect my resume?

ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is software companies use to store, organize, and search job applications. It scans for specific keywords, checks formatting, and often scores resumes for recruiters to search and filter by. If your resume is missing the right terms — even if you are qualified — you can end up invisible to those searches. Applyr identifies exactly what keywords and formatting patterns matter and tells you what to fix.

How is Applyr different from ChatGPT for resume optimization?

ChatGPT doesn't know what keywords a specific ATS is scanning for. You'd have to manually extract them, tell the AI what to fix, then reformat the output. Applyr does all of that automatically in 8 seconds — keyword extraction, gap analysis, score, and rewrite — for a specific job posting.

Who we are

Applyr is operated by Adhiraj Singh Thiroda as an individual. We provide a free ATS resume checker, an AI resume optimizer, and a Chrome extension to help job seekers get past automated screening systems. For any privacy questions, contact us at founder@applyr.in.

What we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Resume and job description content you upload, paste, or otherwise submit to the service.
Email address when you create an account or unlock a free ATS checker result.
Usage and analytics data collected automatically via cookies and third-party tools (see Third-party processors below).
Session recordings and heatmaps via Microsoft Clarity. Clarity records mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, and keystrokes on pages you visit on applyr.in. This means content you type into fields on our site may be captured. We use this data solely to understand how people use the product and to improve it.
Request metadata such as IP address and browser user agent, collected automatically with each request.

How we use your data

To provide the ATS checker, resume tailoring, and job matching features you requested.
To send you your ATS check result by email (with your consent).
To send occasional product tips if you consented at capture and have not unsubscribed.
To improve the product through analytics and session replay data.
To maintain security and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

Email consent (free ATS checker)

Before we email you your ATS check result, we present this consent language and require you to accept it: "I agree that Applyr can use my resume content and email to send me my results and occasional tips about the full portal. I can unsubscribe anytime." You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send, or by emailing us directly.

Third-party processors

We share data with the following third parties solely to provide and improve the service. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf.

OpenAI — We send resume and job description content to OpenAI's API to calculate ATS scores, extract keywords, and generate rewritten content. Under our API agreement, OpenAI does not use this data to train their models.
Google Analytics (GA4) — Collects anonymised usage statistics including pages visited, session duration, and device type. Sets cookies. You can opt out via Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Microsoft Clarity — Records sessions including mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, and keystrokes on our pages. Sets cookies. Content you type into fields on applyr.in may be recorded. To opt out, enable "Do Not Track" in your browser settings. Microsoft's privacy policy applies: microsoft.com/privacy.
PostHog — Product analytics tracking feature usage and user flows to help us understand how the product is used and where to improve it.

Cookies

We use cookies through Google Analytics (GA4) and Microsoft Clarity. These help us understand how you use the site and improve it. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work correctly without them. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Chrome extension

The Applyr Chrome extension reads job posting content on pages you are actively viewing (such as LinkedIn, Greenhouse, and Workday job listings) to score your resume against that specific posting. The SmartFill feature autofills application forms using information from your resume, but only when you explicitly activate it. The extension does not read or transmit content from pages unrelated to job applications.

Data retention and deletion

We retain your account data and resume content for as long as your account is active. You can delete your master resume or close your account entirely from your dashboard settings at any time. Free ATS checker leads are retained to honour the consent given at capture and can be deleted on request by emailing us. We process deletion requests within 30 days.

International data transfers

Applyr is operated from India. Our third-party processors (OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, PostHog) are based in the United States and process data on servers that may be located outside your country. By using the service, you consent to this transfer. We select processors who maintain appropriate data protection standards.

Your rights

All users may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal data we hold about you. Contact us at founder@applyr.in and we will respond within 30 days.

California residents (CCPA) have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

EU and UK residents (GDPR / UK GDPR) have the right to access, rectify, erase, and port your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Our lawful basis for processing is legitimate interest (analytics and service improvement) and consent (email marketing). You may withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email founder@applyr.in.

Children's privacy

Applyr is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our data practices change. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify active account holders by email. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
